What Are You Really Longing For?
What if we got curious about our longings?
What is it that you’re really longing for?
Rest?
Stillness?
Connection?
Presence?
Peace?
Aliveness?
Purpose?
Belonging?
Love?
What is underneath those longings?
And where might they be pointing?
Maybe we don't have to know.
Maybe we can simply listen.
What if our longings are invitations?
I wonder if some of our deepest longings are also invitations.
Invitations to come home.
Home to ourselves.
Home to one another.
Home to the Divine.
To God.
To Love.
I believe God is calling us home.
Not necessarily through dramatic experiences or clear answers, but through the quiet places in us that still long for something more.
A longing for peace.
A longing to be known.
A longing to feel alive.
A longing to belong.
A longing to be held.
We don't always know what to do with these longings.
Sometimes we try to satisfy them.
Sometimes we distract ourselves from them.
Sometimes we judge them or convince ourselves we shouldn't want what we want.
But what if we simply listened?
What if, instead of immediately trying to answer our longing, we became curious about it?
What is this longing asking me to notice?
What is it revealing?
Where is it leading?
Maybe the longing itself is part of the invitation.
We don't have to know
I don't think we always have to know where our longings are leading us.
We don't have to turn every desire into a plan.
We don't have to immediately figure out what the next step is.
Maybe there is something sacred about staying with the question for a while.
Listening.
Making space.
Paying attention.
Letting ourselves wonder.
We can turn toward God and ask:
Are You here?
Are You calling me home?
And then we can listen.
Not necessarily for an answer.
Just for what begins to stir within us when we make space to ask.
Maybe, beneath all our searching, there is a Love calling us home.
Maybe the invitation is not to figure everything out.
Maybe it is simply to listen.
To become a little more available to what is already calling our attention.
To trust that we don't have to know the whole path in order to take the next step.
And perhaps, sometimes, the longing itself is enough to begin.
If you're feeling a longing you can't quite name, you don't have to rush to explain it.
You might simply get curious.
What am I longing for?
What's underneath it?
And where might it be pointing?
You may be surprised by what you hear.
